A little black dress is probably the most versatile piece you can own, and I always make sure to have a few in my closet. One question I get often is: What shoes should you pair with a black dress? The truth is, there are plenty of options, but some combinations definitely feel fresher and more stylish than others. Let’s explore!

What Shoes I Wore With a Black Dress?
1. Chunky Boots
Many girls think black heels are the obvious match for a black dress, but wearing different types of shoes and even a pop of color can feel much more modern.
Here is my first choice –
I love to match feminine pieces like dresses with chunky boots from AllSaints.

2. Small Heel White Slippers
I like small platforms, comfy heels and a little bit of contrast.
Here is my second choice –
Rubber white slippers from Gucci, easy to walk, clean & contrasty, won’t take attention from the dress.

3. Tall Kitten Heel Boots
You can’t see them under my maxi skirt from Zara, but in the picture on the right with my mini skirt, you can get an idea of how these shoes look.
One of my favorite pairs of shoes – Massimo Dutti Kitten Heel Tall Boots – they are so comfortable and pair perfectly with any dress, especially black.

4. Pop Of Color
Black clutch, black dress + extra bright shoes!
Big platform and extra tall heel, glossy look and orange color, got those shoes on Asos.

5. Can’t Go Wrong With Platform
Another chunky shoes – Myles Hardware Sandals from Free People. Easy to wear, was one of my summer favorites. Slip on and ready to go!

6. My Most Worn Pair of Shoes
Kurt Geiger London Orson Sandal – I wore them almost every single day!
Favorite combo of the black dress and shoes. Also chunky, trendy, comfy, with a small platform.

What Other Shoes You Can Were With a Black Dress?
1. Classic Black Heels
You can never go wrong with a classic pair of black heels. Whether they’re pumps, stilettos, or block heels, black-on-black creates a sleek, sophisticated look that works for formal events, cocktail parties, or a night out. It elongates your silhouette and keeps the focus on the dress itself.
2. Nude or Beige Heels
If you’re looking to keep your outfit light and fresh, nude or beige heels are a great option. These neutral tones blend seamlessly with your skin tone and help make your legs look longer, giving a clean, understated finish. Perfect for work events, daytime weddings, or casual gatherings, nude shoes offer versatility without overpowering your look.
3. Metallic Shoes (Gold or Silver)
For a bit of glamour, pair your black dress with metallic shoes. Gold or silver heels add just the right amount of sparkle, instantly elevating your outfit for formal occasions like galas or holiday parties. The shimmer of metallics contrasts beautifully with the simplicity of a black dress, making you stand out in the best way possible.
4. Bold Color Pop
Want to make a statement? Add a bold pop of color with your shoes! Red, cobalt blue, or even a rich emerald green can create a striking contrast against your black dress, making your look more playful and fashion-forward. This choice works especially well for evening events or when you want to inject some personality into your outfit.
5. Animal Print or Patterned Shoes
Animal print or patterned shoes are another fun option to spice up your black dress. Leopard print, zebra stripes, or even a checkered design can add texture and interest, making your outfit feel unique and stylish. Animal print is great for a night out or a casual event where you want to show off your bold side.
6. White Sneakers
For a more casual, relaxed vibe, pair your black dress with white sneakers. This combo is a favorite for street style enthusiasts and perfect for daytime outings, running errands, or brunch. White sneakers keep the look fresh and modern, offering comfort without sacrificing style.
7. Ankle Boots
For cooler months or a more edgy look, ankle boots are the way to go. Black leather or suede boots create a chic, fashion-forward appearance when paired with a black dress, making it perfect for fall or winter events. You can go with heeled or flat boots depending on your comfort and the occasion.
8. Strappy Sandals
If you’re attending a summer wedding or heading out for a tropical vacation, strappy sandals are a great choice to complement your black dress. Whether in metallic tones or soft neutrals, these sandals add elegance and a delicate touch, perfect for warm-weather events or evening dinners by the beach.

and don’t forget “barefoot” is always an option lol
